If you are considering a visit to the palace of snowy peaks, make sure you have enough background information about what Switzerland mountain peaks you want to visit. Keep in mind, all of these are best enjoyed when the weather is hospitable, and an off season trip might devoid you of the wonders of traveling to the Switzerland alps. To help decide what peaks you should visit, here’s a carefully crafted list of the finest mountains in Switzerland, and how you can reach them. 1. MATTERHORN, ZERMATT

Defined as a majestic peak, Matterhorn owes much to its seemingly handcrafted proportions. The peak is at its brightest when the sun glows on its top half, immersing the bottom in a shadowy wilderness. Straddling the border between Italy and Switzerland, this special peak holds a charm not many can deny.

While you might want to take a leisurely trip to the Matterhorn Klein, remember that with a Swiss pass, you’ll be paying half the price to get here!

2. GORNERGRAT, ZERMATT

This rocky ridge offers a panoramic view of the sun’s ascent and descent through an accessible platform. Gornergrat offers a gorgeous view of 29 mountains, including Matterhorn.

You can get here by taking the world’s first electrified, eco-friendly cog railway up into the clouds! To access the cog railway, you need to reach Zermatt station.

Reaching Zermatt is easy- most tourists prefer the train and with a Swiss Pass it’s half the price per ticket!

3. MOUNT TITLIS

Mount Titlis is a favourite among locals. Often referred to as a Crown among Swiss jewels, it is the only open glacier accessible to the public, and is therefore a favourite spot for tourists and locals alike, thanks to the many sporting activities it provides facilities for.

The travel might be worth the while by itself, but if you wish to take it up a notch, a Swiss Pass could get you half the price struck off on your ticket! Seductive much?

4. MOUNT RIGI

Mount Rigi is the queen of the Swiss horizon. Located in the heart of Central Switzerland, this quaint mountain is well connected to every major railway station and is perfectly accessible.

Some of the best hiking trails in the country are accessible through Mount Rigi. Consider a day or two here, to take a short hike around, and return to a nice cabin in the hills. A thick fog is inevitable as the sun sets, but you might be able to get the most out of your visit in autumn. The season is best known for the multitude of fairs and fests it hosts up in the summits.

If you’re feeling extravagant, a number of mineral baths are available, apart from a dip in the lake!

Getting here is free with a Swiss Pass, so you have all the more reason to go!

5. SCHILTHORN, MURREN

Located in the Bernese Alps, this summit is host to a number of activities. Highlight – it even boasts of a 360-degree rotating restaurant! A trip to Lake Lucerne is a must. Simply take the Hinterbergen aeriel car up to the Lake and spend a day there, or visit at night and watch the moonlight reflecting off the surface of the water.

Schilthorn is best known for its relaxing aura, so do remember to spend a day just strolling around. At some point, lie in the meadows and listen to the sounds around you. You won’t need to visit a spa for months!

6. JUNGFRAU

The most mysterious of them all, Jungfrau was quite the pleasant surprise when we first got here. Home to the world’s highest rail station, this peak is best known for its surrendering views of the hundreds of peaks around it!

    The first thing I thought of was oh no I would be freezing but with views like that, I rather have 6 coats on and enjoy every bit. Switzerland is really beautiful and totally worth visiting.

      Sorry for my delayed response! I’d recommend you to book a cool and cozy AirBnB somewhere in Lucerne or Zurich to make the most of this beautiful country. You could do day trips to the other parts like Zermatt, Interlaken, and LAUTERBRUNNEN conveniently. 🙂
