Go Wine Tasting in Budapest with Taste Hungary
There’s a unique experience which only a few people in the world are privy to, and that is the exquisite taste of fragrant wine in a lovely, exotic ambience. Visiting the Tasting Table – one of Hungary’s most stylish and centrally-located wine galleries – guarantees exactly such bliss!
Crash Course on Wine Tasting in Budapest
When we first visited the Tasting Table, we were mildly curious and honestly quite excited. The evening began with our rendezvous with our host – a knowledgeable sommelier, Emi – guiding us through the various red, white, and sparkling wines from the different regions of Hungary. We were privy to a fine exhibit of regional food that is the perfect accompaniment to the wines we were sampling.
The lovely wine tasting was accompanied by an assortment of dry fruits, delicious cheeses, and also crusty breads seasoned with oils on the table (Loved the Poppy seed oil). Eat as you like while enjoying the hand-picked wine and you’re sure to remember the decadent experience for times to come!
Best part is, you decide which of the offered wines, and how much you want to taste. You can have just a sip, or enjoy half a glass, the choice is entirely up to you! All the 8 fine wines are exclusive and directly sourced from the wine producers.
What we enjoyed most is the wonderful insights Emi provided into the nitty-gritties of Hungarian wine production. We learnt about the different regions where wine is made, what their hallmarks are, and lots of other wine-related trivia. If you are a wine aficionado, this wine tasting session will really help you understand Hungarian wine in the larger context of wine fermentation.
And that’s not all! If you embark on a wine tour with Taste Hungary and love any particular wine, you even get a call back to try it once more at the end of the tour.
The Winning Wine for Us
Personally, we both have never been inclined towards sweet wines. But when served the exotic Tokai wine at the Tasting Table, we were mighty impressed with its complex aroma and intense freshness. It was round and detectably fruity, with long-lasting acidity. The residual sugar was moderately saccharine and perfectly complemented the flavor of the wine.
It was just fantastic? At the end of the day, as a wine lover, what does one want? Finely fermented fabulous wines, pleasant ambience, few sweets to nibble on, and some good company. At the Tasting Table, all expectations are met! It’s two hours well-spent and if you’re not a wine-lover so far, you’re probably going to become one after visiting the Tasting Table!
“You can’t buy happiness but you can buy wine and that’s kind of the same thing.”
*We would like to thank Carolyn Bánfalvi and Gábor for inviting us for wine tasting in Budapest. The ‘Essentials of Hungarian Wine’ session was indeed the highlight of our trip. And of course all our yummy opinions are our own!!**
